Wow, this is a mind boggling topic when you first think of it. My understanding is that many states require that a home inspector be licensed or certified, and others just have not gotten around to it. As a purchaser of a house, or an active home inspector, you probably want to know what the present requirements are for a home inspector to inspect homes in your state, and what they are.
Or maybe you think that such State requirements are just an easy way for the State to get some more money out of the home inspector. I mean, after all, can the State really enforce anything, or are they “de facto” like the EPA? – Recommending standards to follow, but not enforcing them.
I’d like to hear from you. I’ve got a lot of information on this topic, but I have even more questions about it than answers. What state are you in? What does your State require of a home inspector?
